“Children, love each other, love is everything” A hand-painted writing in the dining room of Carl and Karin Larsson in Lilla Hyttnäs. These wordings permeate every detail in their home and welcome their visitors. More than a hundred years ago, Carl and Karin opened the door to their living room and spread their co-creation “A Home” (Swedish: Ett Hem) to the world. Carl’s paintings show scenes from their life that radiate happiness, a sense of humor, and dynamics focusing on creativity and the love for creating. The couple respected each other’s art and discussed their works. Carl never signed a painting without having a night’s sleep and consulting with Karin first. Karin often surprised Carl when he came back from trips with new beautiful and functional interior design solutions. When stepping through their door you are met with the notion of free family life, with an understanding and respect for the children’s peculiarities and the arts. The interior design style is a bold mix, formed by the couple’s unique esthetics and international influences, practical functions, and openness for new impressions. The couple was well educated. Along the stairway are eight hooks in line with the children’s height. At the table in the library lies international art publications, newspapers, and books in different languages. The lush garden functioned as the family’s living room during the summer months. Karin had a real talent for gardening and her seasonal bouquets were a recurring element in their everyday lives. Karin made life at Lilla Hyttnäs to a piece of art that Carl later immortalized in his idyllic aquarelles. Sandberg Wallpaper has received the honor to study the Larssons home up close with great respect and humbleness. Our collection “A Swedish home” is a declaration of love for Carl and Karin’s family, their unique home, and admirable lifestyle. A lifestyle that continues to inspire us today. Each pattern tells a story about the family’s home and lifestyle. The color scheme brings to life a vision of a life-affirming, loving, Swedish home. We call it Swedish wallpaper art.
