G P & J Baker was founded in 1884 by two brothers, George-Percival and James Baker. The brothers progressed from the import and export of Middle Eastern carpets, which influenced some of the early designs, to textiles, becoming avid collectors of rare and iconic textiles. The G P & J Baker archive is arguably one of the largest private collections in the world and includes designs and objects from across the world including, Chinese wallpapers, Peruvian tunics, Italian and Turkish velvets, beautiful Indian prints, French toiles, Indonesian batiks, early English glazed chintz prints as well as Art Nouveau original paintings and more. It is this archive as well as a continued passion for innovation which drives the stunning designs in the current G P & J Baker collections.
