The method
How the estimate is worked out
Every estimate follows these steps, in this order.
1. Widths
The track width is multiplied by the fullness of the heading, the returns and centre overlap are added, and the result is divided by the fabric width and rounded up to whole widths.
2. Cut length
The drop plus the hem and heading allowance gives the cut length, rounded up to whole pattern repeats.
3. Pattern match
The widths are multiplied by the cut length, with an allowance for matching the pattern where widths are joined.
4. Curtains
This is multiplied by the number of identical curtains or pairs. Any selected extra pattern repeat is added once per fabric.
5. Rounding
The total is rounded up to the fabric's minimum order and selling increment.
Railroaded fabric: when a wide fabric is used sideways, its width becomes the curtain drop, so the drop plus 15 cm must fit within the fabric width. The track width plus a small allowance is multiplied by the fullness, giving one continuous length per curtain or pair with no joins. A patterned fabric used sideways is checked by our team.

Where do I find the fabric width and pattern repeat?
On the fabric's product page. Search for the fabric in the calculator and its width, pattern repeat, minimum order and selling increment are filled in for you.
My fabric is plain. What do I enter for the repeat?
Leave the pattern repeat blank. The cut length is then the drop plus the allowances, with no rounding to a repeat.
Can I work out several curtains at once?
Yes. Add more items under the first one. Each can use the same fabric or a different one, and each fabric gets its own quantity.
