Explore vinyl upholstery fabrics for chairs, sofas, headboards, banquettes and commercial seating. Our collection includes smooth, grained and embossed leather-look surfaces in practical neutrals, contemporary colours and brighter statement shades.
Vinyl construction and performance vary by product. Check the individual composition, recommended application, abrasion result, fire-performance information and cleaning instructions before ordering, particularly for contract or frequently used upholstery.

PVC surfaces for tailored upholstery
Vinyl upholstery fabric commonly combines a PVC or vinyl face with a textile backing. The surface can be smooth, finely grained, embossed or given a more decorative finish, allowing it to recreate different leather-like effects while being supplied by the metre.
Vinyl is one particular type of faux leather rather than another name for every leather-look material. Polyurethane, silicone and other synthetic constructions may resemble vinyl but have different compositions and should be compared using their individual specifications.
Options for dining chairs, stools, headboards and other furniture where a tailored leather-look surface is required.
Selected products are developed for commercial seating, subject to the required abrasion, fire and cleaning specifications.
Choose from smooth, grained, embossed and textured finishes in neutral, natural, pastel and stronger statement colours.

Seating for commercial interiors
Vinyl can create a smart, coordinated surface across restaurant banquettes, bar stools, hotel furniture, reception seating and other commercial upholstery. Broad colour ranges also make it possible to combine complementary shades across different pieces of furniture.
Contract suitability must be established for the exact product and project. Review abrasion performance, cleaning instructions, fire-test information, colourfastness and any additional technical requirements rather than relying on the material name alone.

Understand the material
Most products within this category use a vinyl or PVC surface supported by a woven, knitted or non-woven textile backing. The backing helps provide dimensional stability and allows the material to be cut and upholstered in a similar manner to other upholstery textiles.
Percentages and terminology differ between manufacturers. Check the complete composition where PVC content, polyurethane content or a particular backing construction matters to the project.

Grain, embossing and character
A fine grain gives vinyl a quieter, more natural-looking character, while stronger embossing creates a visibly decorative surface. Shagreen-inspired and other textured effects can introduce additional depth without relying on printed pattern.
Texture becomes particularly noticeable across larger pieces and under directional light. Compare a physical sample with the furniture form and surrounding materials before committing to a colour or finish.

Colour and tailored detail
Vinyl is not limited to commercial interiors. Selected products can be considered for dining chairs, kitchen seating, stools, occasional furniture and upholstered headboards where their appearance and specification suit the intended use.
Piping, seams and curved edges make the handle and flexibility of the material important. The upholsterer should assess whether the selected vinyl will work successfully with the shape and construction of the furniture.

Match performance to the project
Selected vinyl collections offer high abrasion results or other properties intended for demanding upholstery. Some may also have documented fire-performance, antibacterial, antifungal or stain-related characteristics.
These properties are not universal. A high abrasion result does not prove fire compliance, while a wipeable surface should not automatically be described as waterproof or suitable for exterior exposure. Always use the current technical specification for the exact product.
Avoid assumptions about exposure
A vinyl surface may resist the immediate passage of some moisture, but that does not establish that the complete material, seams, backing or finished furniture is waterproof. Nor does it prove resistance to sunlight, weathering, mould or temperature changes.
Only use vinyl outdoors when the manufacturer explicitly recommends the product for that environment. Exterior furniture also requires suitable fillings, threads, fixings and construction.

Compare colour, grain and flexibility
A sample helps you assess the real colour, grain, thickness, flexibility and sheen of the material. It also allows you to compare the vinyl with timber, metal, paint, wallpaper and coordinating textiles within the scheme.
For commercial projects, tell us the product, colourway, application, quantity and any required performance standards. We can request available technical information from the supplier before an order is placed.

Frequently asked questions
Vinyl upholstery commonly has a PVC or vinyl surface supported by a textile backing. The precise percentages and backing composition vary, so consult the individual product specification.
Faux leather is the broader category of materials designed to provide a leather-like appearance. Vinyl is one type of faux leather, while other products may use polyurethane, silicone or different synthetic constructions.
Selected products are developed for commercial and hospitality upholstery. Confirm abrasion performance, fire-test information, cleaning guidance and any other project requirements for the exact product.
It should not automatically be described as waterproof. The face may resist some moisture, but the backing, seams and finished item may not. Check the manufacturer’s specification for the planned application.
Only when the individual product is explicitly recommended for outdoor use. Vinyl intended for interior seating should not be exposed outdoors simply because it has a coated surface.
Follow the care instructions for the individual product. Remove spills promptly and avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents or unapproved chemicals that could damage the surface coating.
