Kirkby Design Underground Vol.III Cushions
Drawing directly from the rich visual language of London's transport heritage, Underground Vol.III cushions translate archival moquette designs into bold, tactile accents for contemporary interiors. This considered selection of readymade cushions celebrates Kirkby Design's collaboration with Transport for London, reinterpreting historically significant upholstery patterns as luxurious cut and uncut velvets. Graphic geometry defines Bakerloo, where interlocking forms create a confident three-dimensional presence, while Caledonian revisits Marion Dorn's 1938 tartan moquette in a refined, textural interpretation. The large-scale colour blocks of Northern, originally conceived by Marianne Straub, introduce a striking graphic rhythm softened by velvet tactility. Each cushion carries a narrative rooted in London design history yet feels entirely at ease in modern living spaces. The interplay of heritage geometry, luxurious pile and carefully curated colourways results in decorative pieces that feel both cultural and contemporary. Whether styled individually or layered together, these cushions embody a sophisticated urban character that honours transport design while elevating interior schemes with texture, depth and bold visual identity.
