Medallion designs have been common in fabric and rug designs for centuries. The popular medallion design style includes large elaborate medallions, typically in a rounded diamond, or stylised circles, often embelleshed with floral flourishes set against a repeating patterned background. The pattern and medallion should be symmetrical, where if you were to cut through the center the two halves would be mirror copies of each other.
