Made around your interior

A tailored fabric blind, designed for the window

Roman blinds combine the clean proportions of a blind with the colour, texture and pattern of a furnishing fabric. When raised, the fabric forms a series of neat folds; when lowered, it becomes a larger uninterrupted surface that can make a favourite design an important part of the room.

Made to measure means the blind can be specified around the proportions of the individual window rather than restricted to standard finished sizes. The face fabric, lining, construction and decorative details can all be considered together.

A Roman blind can work beautifully on its own or alongside made-to-measure curtains where a more layered window treatment is required.

Experience behind the service

Over 50 years of made-to-measure experience

TM Interiors began as a family interiors business in 1975 and is now run by the second generation. Made-to-measure furnishings have remained part of the business throughout that time. Since taking the business online in 2010, we have continued to make and supply bespoke furnishings for customers throughout the UK and internationally.

The way customers shop has changed considerably; the principles behind a successful Roman blind have not. Good fabric, accurate measurements, the right construction and lining, careful pattern placement and considered making still matter.

How it works

From fabric to finished Roman blind

Build your Roman blind specification step by step, with help available if you are unsure about fabric suitability, measurements, lining or finishing choices.

Step 01

Find your fabric

Choose from the TM Interiors fabric collection, order samples where available and narrow down the look you want for your room.

Step 02

Enter your measurements

Tell us the blind dimensions and whether the finished blind is intended to sit inside or outside the window recess.

Step 03

Build your specification

Choose the lining and construction, then add decorative or coordinating details where required.

Step 04

Made to order

Once the specification has been checked and agreed, your Roman blind is made to order and prepared for delivery.

Make it your own

More choice in the details

Made-to-measure should mean more than choosing a fabric and entering a width and drop. The lining, construction and decorative finish all influence how a Roman blind looks and performs, allowing the specification to be considered around both the window and the wider interior.

Standard lining

A versatile lined specification for many living rooms, dining rooms and other interiors where a traditional Roman blind finish is required.

Blackout lining

Choose blackout where greater light control is important, particularly in bedrooms. Some light may still enter around the edges depending on the window and fitting position.

Bonded & bonded blackout

Bonded lining and bonded blackout constructions can be considered for suitable fabrics and blind specifications where this method of making is appropriate.

Interlining

Add interlining where a fuller, more substantial construction and additional body are required, subject to the chosen fabric and finished blind size.

Contrast borders

Introduce a second fabric or colour to create definition, frame the main design or connect the blind with other furnishings in the room.

Decorative trimmings

Add braid or another suitable trimming to introduce detail and give an otherwise simple blind a more individual finish.

Coordinating pelmets

A made-to-measure upholstered pelmet can be considered where the window treatment calls for a stronger architectural or decorative finish.

Motorised options

Motorisation, including Somfy systems where appropriate, can be discussed as part of the specification for suitable Roman blind projects.

Coordinate the room

Carry the same fabric or complementary designs into made-to-measure curtains, cushions or an upholstered headboard to connect the wider scheme.

Fabric selection

Start with the right fabric

One of the benefits of choosing a made-to-measure Roman blind through TM Interiors is the breadth of fabric available to you. Our online collection spans leading designer houses and covers everything from understated plains and linens to prints, embroideries, velvets and statement patterns.

Fabric choice affects much more than colour. Weight, composition, thickness, pattern repeat and the way a fabric handles can all influence how successfully it makes into a Roman blind and how the folds sit when raised.

Not every furnishing fabric is suitable for every Roman blind specification, so if you have already found a fabric you love, we can help you assess its suitability before proceeding.

Measurements & advice

Get the specification right before we make

Accurate measurements are essential for a made-to-measure Roman blind. One of the first decisions is whether the blind will be fitted inside the window recess or positioned outside it, as this can affect the finished dimensions, appearance and the way light reaches the edges.

If you are unsure about width, drop, fitting position or the suitability of a particular fabric, ask before placing the order. We would much rather resolve a question at the specification stage than leave you guessing about an important detail.

Frequently asked questions

Made to measure Roman blinds FAQs

Can I choose any fabric for a Roman blind?

Not every fabric is equally suitable for Roman blind construction. Weight, composition, thickness, pattern repeat and the way the fabric handles can all influence the finished result, so we can help check suitability before you proceed.

Can I order a fabric sample before deciding?

Where samples are available, ordering one is a useful way to assess colour, texture and pattern scale in the room before committing to the finished blind.

What information do you need for a Roman blind quote?

The exact requirements depend on the project, but typically include the blind width and drop, chosen fabric, whether the blind will sit inside or outside the recess, the lining specification and details of any additional finishing options.

Can Roman blinds be blackout lined?

Yes. Blackout specifications are available. Blackout lining reduces light passing through the blind itself, although some light may still enter around the outside edges depending on the window and fitting position.

Do you make interlined Roman blinds?

Yes. Interlining can be specified for suitable Roman blinds where a fuller and more substantial construction is required. The face fabric and finished blind size should be considered as part of the specification.

Can my Roman blind have a decorative trim or border?

Yes, subject to the chosen fabric and design. Contrast borders, braids and other suitable decorative details can be considered when building the specification.

Should my Roman blind sit inside or outside the recess?

Either arrangement can work. The best option depends on the window, available space, finished appearance and how you want the blind to sit when raised and lowered. We can help if you are unsure.

Can Roman blinds be coordinated with curtains?

Yes. Using the same or complementary fabrics across Roman blinds and curtains can create a layered, coordinated window treatment, while cushions or an upholstered headboard can carry the scheme further into the room.

Can you make motorised Roman blinds?

Motorised options, including Somfy systems, can be considered for suitable Roman blind projects. Ask us about motorisation when requesting your quote so we can advise on the appropriate specification.

Can you help if I have already chosen a fabric?

Yes. If you already have a fabric in mind, TM Interiors can help with suitability, quantities and the made-to-measure Roman blind specification.
