How to Hang 3D Wallpaper – Video Guide

In this Arte video tutorial, you can watch a non-woven-backed 3D wallcovering being installed using the paste-the-wall method, including layout, trimming, seams and techniques for inner and outer corners.

Video copyright: Arte.

What the Video Demonstrates

Preparation Checking the wall, product reference, batch details and hanging instructions before cutting.
Feature-wall layout Finding the centre and deciding whether a seam or a full drop should sit on the centre line.
Paste-the-wall installation Applying adhesive to the wall and positioning the dry non-woven-backed wallcovering.
Trimming & seams Using sharp blades, aligning drops and finishing seams without damaging the raised texture.
Inner corners Carrying the wallcovering slightly onto the adjoining wall and maintaining alignment.
Outer corners Wrapping the wallcovering carefully around a projecting corner and continuing onto the next wall.

Important: this video demonstrates an Arte 3D wallcovering with a non-woven backing. Do not assume every 3D wallcovering is installed in exactly the same way. Always follow the current instructions supplied with the product.

Key Points Before You Start

  • Make sure the wall is dry, clean, sound and suitably smooth.
  • Check product reference, batch and hanging direction before cutting.
  • Plan the feature wall from the centre if symmetry is important.
  • Use the adhesive specified for the exact wallcovering.
  • Use approved tools and avoid crushing or marking the raised surface.
  • Keep adhesive off the face of the wallcovering wherever possible.
  • Inspect the first few drops before continuing across the whole wall.

Inner & Outer Corner Tips

Inner corners

The Arte demonstration takes the final drop slightly onto the adjoining wall rather than finishing exactly in the angle. A new vertical reference is then established on the next wall.

The amount of overlap and the degree to which the material can be adjusted are product-specific, so check the supplied instructions.

Outer corners

The demonstrated wallcovering is carefully wrapped around the projecting corner, with the adjoining-wall edge brought back to a vertical guide.

Do not assume every sculpted wallcovering can be folded or stretched around an outer corner. Construction and handling limits vary.
