Introducing the Water Garden Collection from Sanderson
We take a look at Sanderson's stunning Spring/Summer 2022 fabric and wallpaper collection, Water Garden. Bursting with flora and fauna this fabulous collection of papers and fabric offers a selection of some of Sanderson's most stylish designs in their archive in a range of contemporary colourways. There is something for everyone in this stylish new collection.
Spotlight on Sanderson's Water Garden Collection
Sanderson have just released Water Garden, their latest spring collection of fabrics and wallpapers. This stunning collection is full of Chinoiserie inspired designs as well as contemporary interpretations of some of Sanderson’s best loved archive designs.
Water Garden Wallpaper from Sanderson
The standout wallpaper, which also lends its name to the collection, is Water Garden. This wide width wallpaper uses delicate hues of pinks, yellows and blues to show a waterscape horizon, with the tranquil waters rising up to meet the sky and providing a calming backdrop for the dancing fish and birds. Trailing laburnum and water lilies give added depth to this stunning wallpaper from Sanderson’s decorative painter Rachel Spelling (The 2017 Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust Sanderson Design Co. Scholar). The calming waters make this beautiful design perfect for bathrooms and bedrooms, or as a stunning feature wall in any room. Better still you can even watch a video showing the creative process in effect, this video shows the design being painted in watercolour on a full size wall.
Water Garden Fabrics from Sanderson
The Water Garden wallpapers can be combined with a number of the fabrics in Sanderson’s spring collection, such as the wonderful Fusang Tree in Peacock Blue. The large-scale tree of life design recreates an earlier blockprint in the Sanderson archive but the colours in the Peacock Blue colourway (one of four possible colourways) will accentuate the blues and pinks of the Water Garden wallpaper. For a contrast between the Water Garden Wallpaper and Fusang Tree fabric, you could add accent cushions in the China Blue fabric, with its stylised motifs of flowers and fruit adapted from an 18th Century French textile.

Amara Butterfly Fabric & Wallpaper
Amara Buttefly is a vibrant and bustling design inspired by a Chinese embroidery from the 1930s.
The fabulous design is available in three wallpaper colourways and two fabric colourways, it is shown here in the Cinnabar and Ink colourway.
Chinoiserie Hall Matching Wallpaper and Fabric
Chinoiserie Hall is a classic Chinois design with beautiful Chinese Magpies and budgies perched amongst branches full of blossom. The original design is believed to have been designed by William Turner (1867-1936). The wallpaper is available in four colourways: Dawn Blue/Persimmon, Natural, Chinese Green/Lotus Pink with mica detail and Blueberry/Purple (shown below). The fabric is offered in 3 colourways including the vibrant yellows of Papavera.
Crane & Frog Matching Fabric and Paper
Crane and Frog has a distinctive Sanderson feel with its charming scene of English water gardens filled with elegant Cranes, lively frogs and dancing Koi.
The design was inpired by an earlier painted silk from the Sanderson archives. The fabric is available in a single colourway, Lotus Pink and Gosling, whilst the wallpaper offers three options.
Water Garden Wallpaper Collection
With 13 wondeful wallpapers to choose from there is no shortage of papers in the Water Garden collection, as well as the range of flora and fauna there is also a stylish trellis wallpaper, Empire Trellis. The chinoiserie inspired collection is full of flora and fauna but two of the most striking wallpapers in Sanderson's Water Garden collection are Lotus Leaf and Voyaging Koi.
Lotus Leaf Wallpaper from Sanderson
Lotus leaf is a large scale motif, unusual for depicting the long stems of the lotus leaf floating upwards towards the sky, rathe than the more traditional above the water view. The result is a stunning unique botanical wallpaper which has a fluidity and calmness to the design. The gentle copper colourway offered in the collection is a nod towards Art Deco era colours.
Voyaging Koi Wallpaper
Voyaging Koi is full of playful Koi carp migrating up the wallpaper, a shimmering effect has been achieved through the use of mica on the scales. The subtle texture of the backgroun is indicative of rippling water, and the colourway and layout are again reminiscant of Art Deco design.
Water Garden Fabric Collection
There are an impressive 16 Sanderson fabrics in the Water Garden collection including florals, botanicals, as well as the medallion inspired Anthos, an ogee upholstery fabric, Starla.
Indienne Peacock Fabric from Sanderson
As well as taking inspiration from China the collection also includes this Indienne inspired fabric. The 100% linen fabric, perfect for curtains and cushions, shows stylised peacocks and tropical birds amongst vegetation and is available in two colourways including the Cinnaba Red shown opposite.
Water Dragon Fabric by Sanderson
Traditionally a symbol of imperial power, water dragons are shown climbing up this glorious fabric in the contemporary Emporer Blue colourway. The clouds and rocks in the background add an authenticity to the design which is brought to life by the richly coloured cotton velvet.
