To give a decidedly fresh modern look to the ancient craft of stitchery Mark Alexander Handcrafted Modern I Fabrics has a sturdy linen weave that forms the ground for meandering cotton chain-stitch designs in modernist patterns, and chunky bars of satin-stitch embroidery. Printed fabrics, in linear designs, are rendered in a painterly manner like Girard which is a view of cultivated fields from above, where the complex interconnection of Inca masonry, form the many visual comparisons for this printed linen. Other designs feature some gentle watercolours like Inlay where hand painted repeating lines form a larger basket weave-like motif which is screen-printed onto a pure linen ground, and other designs created from pointillist dots. Light filters through a curtain of very fine linen, pieced together in a geometric patchwork, and reflecting its abstract patterns on floor and walls.
