Below are two classic plaid and tartan wallpapers, both from Mind the Gap, you can see from the roomshots how tartan wallpapers can provide the perfect canvas to a room in which you can mix and match both complementary and competing patterns. The two designs shown are Monterey, which is their take on an iconic tartan plaid, and Equestian Plaid, which is intended to cpature the spirit of the Sccottish Highlands. 

Checkered Patchwork Wallpaper

Romanian luxury interiors brand Mind the Gap have released a number of dramatic check and tartan wallpapers, which complements their contemporary and traditional Transylvanian design roots, one of our favourites is this diagonally arranged Checkered Patchwork wallpaper, available in a British Green and a Mid Brown Colourway. The warmth of the check design is complemented by the textured paper for a design which is at once both classic and contemporary.

Windowpane Wallpaper

Ralph Lauren offer a large scale Windowpane check wallpaper which is perfect for creating a smart but informal interior. Part of their Modern Lodge collection for Designers Guild, this is one of their best selling wallpapers, the stylish design is available in six colourways and is printed on a warm natural ground replicating the texture of the wool fabric which softens the overall look. 

Bright Tartan Wallpaper

We have featured this Chennai wallpaper from Designers Guild before in other blogs but what draws us back to it is the combination of the bold bright colourways, of which there are five, with the flocked check detail. The result is a really eye-catching wallpaper, better still this modern contemporary tartan can also be carried into the room further by combining it with the matching silk Chennai fabrics. 

Unusual Tartan Wallpaper

We love this aptly named Unusual Tartan Wallpaper from Mind the Gap, the simple diagonal layout creates an optical illusion through the slightly offset design causing the lines to appear to curve bringing the wallpaper to life and keeping the design interesting. The wallpaper is available in a single colourway with black and orange-brown colouring.

Plaid Wallpaper

This smart upmarket plaid wallpaper is from Ralph Lauren, the houndstooth design is part of their Archival wallpaper collection which combines urban chic with English country estates. The Egarton wallpaper is available in 8 enticing colourways with the Gunmetal Black and Blue options shown below.

Gingham Wallpaper

US luxury wallpaper brand Schumacher offer both a small and large scale classic Gingham wallpaper in the form of their Willa Check Wallpaper and Willa Check Large Wallpaper, each is available in 9 colourways, shown below is a Pink colourway of the smaller scale gingham of Willa Check.  Designers Guild also offer a subtle small scale gingham wallpaper. It is available in three colourways, Cobalt, Delft (shown below) and Peony.

Harlequin Pattern Wallpaper

A slightly less common check design wallpaper can be found in the Mascarade Arlequin Wallpaper by Christian Lacroix with its harlequin diamond design. The colourway is remniscent of the joyful colours found on harlequin performers. As an alternative, Caselio offer a range of diamond wallpapers in an almost harlequin design, including a variant overlayed with stars, perfect for childrens rooms and nurseries.
