About our company
TM Interiors Ltd is an abbreviation of Tom McAlpin Interiors established in 1975 by Tom McAlpin.
As the nature of retailing continues to evolve TM Interiors is progressing with it. As more and more brands deliver the launch of their products through their own internet sites, and display their full product libraries online, with in some cases a direct sampling service, ultimately this means less and less consumers feel the need to visit retail showrooms. It is now entirely possible for customers to research and make choices from the comfort of their own homes without the need to step into a retail outlet.
TM Interiors has adapted to serve those that wish to purchase interior products in this way, while at the same time still maintaining services and a retail showroom for customers who prefer to visit them
A brief history
Tom McAlpin set up shop on Lincoln Road Millfield when it was considered the "high street" of Peterborough, having served his apprenticeship at Baxter's furniture store in Whittlesey. With the help of his fitter Barry Munns the pair quickly gained a good reputation for expert sales advice and quality workmanship which enabled them to grow the business.
Tom soon became a member of the Greendale group of some 160 independent retail stores. Being part of such an organisation meant he was able to compete favourably with the larger retail outlets yet retain the hgh level of personal service that customers expected.
An eye for design
As the business started to grow, Tom's eye for colour and texture developed, and he was one of the first business in Peterborough to open accounts with some of the leading fabric design houses such as Zoffany, Osborne & Little and the like.
It wasn't long before the design department was established with a number of designer's working for the business. During this period an in house workroom was developed by his wife Shirley, and all the curtains and soft furnishings, were hand made by herself and the team.
Tom, and his youngest son Richard now run the business with the help of their trusted staff. Shirley still maintains the curtaining workroom, however Barry Munns has retired from the business.
A a team of professional designer's and trades helps the company undertake project's of various sizes, and the company plans to become a recognised member of the Society of British Interior Design in the near future.
The important part for the company moving forward is always to maintain and continue the high level of quality and service that TM Interiors is renowned for, whether it be for the commercial, or residential markets, or even in modern times its online sales.
